The Heritage Centre

The Heritage Centre occupies the former school, on the green. It is a stone building with a porch, and it is the heart of a visit if you like to know where you are. The tourist information point is inside. Trail leaflets, the church card, and the sketch of the village are sold when stocks allow. The mining gallery is the main room. Plans of the Plashetts seam, a flame lamp of the pattern used under the local rule, and the office day-books are shown in the front rooms. A portrait of J. Slater hangs on the stair. The canary room is a working room at the rear; ask at the desk if you wish to see it. When the centre is closed, papers are clipped to the outer board. The porch is a porch; the waiting, such as it is, is better done on the bench on the green.

The mining gallery is the main room, in the former school. A printed card of the church carving is sold when stocks allow. We do not send the sketch map by electronic mail; it is a paper thing, and it is here. A trial webcam from the porch was run in 2004. Papers when shut are on the outer board.

Papers for the desk are kept in the drawers behind it. Numbering was not continued after the third drawer. The drawers are shown when they are out; enquiry should be made at the desk. The 2003 print gave the handlist as /downloads/handlist. That list is not issued with the leaflet. The yard wall bears a Board plate, dated after 1947, naming the licensed mine and the training heading.
