The canary room
Last updated: 22 March 2006
The canary room is a working room at the rear of the Heritage Centre. It is not a display in the gallery sense. The birds are kept as they were about the pit, and they are still kept. Ask at the desk if you wish to see it. It is not shown every day, and it is not shown when the desk is not staffed.

The canary room, rear of the centre. A working room. Ask at the desk.
The mining gallery is the main room, in the front. The canary room is behind that, and the yard is the back way if the desk sends you round. Group visits on Monday may include it by arrangement. Do not tap the cages. The hours are the hours of the centre, not the daily hour given as a general guide on the home page.
A flame lamp of the pattern used under the local rule stands in the gallery case, not in this room. The two belong to the same working. See Mining.
