The former school

Last updated: 25 March 2006

The Heritage Centre occupies the former school, on the green. It is a stone building with a porch, and it has the look of a school still, which is part of its character. The present use began in 2001. The museum collection was moved here at that time; the old museum address is retained as a note.

The tourist information point is inside. A trial view from the porch was tried in 2004 and has ended; the green is still there. The mining gallery is the main room; see the gallery. A brass plate of 1933 is in the porch, recording the arrangement of 1926 and the beginning of the evening class. The porch is open to the lane. The bench on the green is the waiting.

The school is not open as a school. Group visits to the centre are by arrangement on Mondays; see booked groups.
