The porch
Last updated: 22 March 2006
The porch of the Heritage Centre is the porch of the former school. It faces the green. It is open to the lane. The tourist information point is inside, when the desk is staffed; when it is not, papers are clipped to the outer board on the centre wall, and the porch is still a porch. The waiting, such as it is, is better done on the bench.

A brass plate of 1933 is set in the porch, recording the arrangement of 1926 and the beginning of the evening class. It can be read without going in. The Green Man Trail starts here. Leaflets, the church card, and the sketch of the village are sold at the desk when stocks allow. A trial view from the porch was run in 2004 and has ended; the green is still there. Weather is taken from the porch if it is dry, and from the door if it is not; the last record entered is on the Weather page.
The mining gallery is the main room inside. The canary room is a working room at the rear; ask at the desk if you wish to see it. Group visits on Monday are by arrangement. There is a shallow step. See the Heritage Centre and the former school.
