The lamp

A flame lamp of the pattern used under the local rule stands in the case by the day-books, in the mining gallery. Water in the Bank Top drift in the early 1930s fixed that rule: no examination without a deputy and a lamp of this sort. The rule still holds at the gated heading. Visitors stand at the gate. They do not go in.

Flame lamp of the pattern used under the local rule. Gallery, front room, in the case.
The lamp in the case is not handled. It is the pattern, not a spare for the heading. Booked parties for the gate are a separate arrangement from a morning in the gallery, and are not offered on the same morning unless the desk says so. See booked groups and Mining.
The canary room is at the rear. The lamp is in the front. Both belong to the same working. Allow an hour if you like to read labels.
