The green

The green is the open ground the houses stand about, and it is the first thing you see when you arrive. Grass, a bench, the box of the old kiosk. The hall is at the near end as you come in, with its gable to the road. The Heritage Centre porch faces the grass. The church stands a little above. The inn faces from the far side and is closed for refurbishment; the frontage is unchanged.

Parking is at the hall, which keeps the green for walking and for Sunday tea. The tourist walks leave from here. The Green Man Trail starts at the porch and returns by the hall, which is a different way, and that is the pleasure of it.

There is no shop on the green. There is no public telephone. The outer board is on the centre wall and can be read at any hour. Beyond the far end the old approach continues to Seldom Seen, a short row still occupied. There is no turning place there. Reverse at the hall.
