The plate

Last updated: 25 March 2006

A brass plate of 1933 is set in the porch of the former school. It records the arrangement of 1926 and the beginning of the evening class. It can be read without going in. The porch is open to the lane. The waiting, such as it is, is better done on the bench.

Brass plate of 1933 in the school porch

The brass of 1933. The porch is open to the lane.

The parish has always called the evening instruction the Class: reading, drawing, and the elements of the work. The plate is the public record of that beginning. Visitors are asked to read it from the porch. The school building has the look it has always had. The tourist information point is inside, when the desk is staffed.

The wording on the plate is the wording of 1933. It is not corrected to later names. For the mining years as we record them, see Mining.
