The route

Last updated: 14 October 2005

The following numbered stops are those used on the board at the centre. They are not in every respect the numbers on the 2003 leaflet. If you are using that leaflet, a correction was printed, and it will save you a pause at the wrong stile.

  1. Heritage Centre porch — start. Leaflets at the desk when open.
  2. The green, hall on the left. The trail leaves the grass here.
  3. Memorial garden. A place to stand. The main line continues toward the church.
  4. Church gate. The carving is inside, when the church is open. (This is not the Stop 4 of the 2003 leaflet.)
  5. Forest fence. The ride bends. Keep the fence on your right. The trees close in, and this is the walk.
  6. Second stile. The eastern loop leaves here. The main trail does not.
  7. Upper burn crossing. After rain this is wet, and it is a good burn to look at.
  8. Return through the trees to the green, arriving by the hall.

The walk is circular. It returns you to the starting point by a different way, which is the pleasure of it. There is no Stop 9 on the trail. A ninth point appears on the map key and is not a stop.
