What to bring

Last updated: 22 March 2006

The Green Man Trail is moderate walking, with stiles, and it is the walk we are proudest of. The advertised distance is about four miles. The measured line in current use is three and three-quarter miles. The eastern continuation is extra. What follows is the ordinary kit of a day here. It is not a list of requirements. The path will still be there if you have forgotten something.

Useful on the trail
  • Boots in winter, and after rain at any season.
  • A flask. There is no shop in the village. The market is on Saturday. Provisions are more readily found in Falstone.
  • Film, if you use it. Armstrong's, on the lane, sells and develops it.
  • The current leaflet, if the desk is open. If you have the 2003 print, read the correction.
  • A look at the board before you leave the green, and at the sky. The last weather entry is not a forecast.
  • Waterproofs. This is a forest. The rides hold the weather as well as the sound.

There is no need to bring a picnic table, or a stove. Fires are not permitted. A picnic is a flask and whatever you have with you. Dogs should be on leads on the green, in the churchyard, and on the approach to Seldom Seen; a short note is under dogs. Take litter back to the hall bins.

The walk returns by the hall. Sunday tea, when it is being served, is a good end to it, and you may come in as you are. In winter allow more time than the map suggests, and see in winter. The main line remains open in the sense advertised on the home page.
