The memorial garden

The memorial garden names the dead of the pit and of the two wars. It is a small garden, and it is kept. It does not attempt a full roll of the works. It can be seen from the gravel if the ground is dry, and that is a good view of it. It is Stop 3 on the trail board. The parish trail comes through the garden and turns with it. It is a place to stand before the trees close in.

Walkers pass the garden and continue toward the church. The pit head is not laid out as a visitor site; this is the place from which that working is shown. Slater’s Incline may be seen from here as a cut in the bank; the incline itself is a working way and is not a walk. See the old incline. The eastern loop does not leave from the garden; it leaves later, at the second stile.
