Walking

Walking is the principal reason to come, and Plashetts is built for it. The advertised parish walk is the Green Man Trail, starting at the centre, visiting the memorial garden and the church, and returning to the green by a different way. A shorter mining heritage path runs from the memorial garden and returns by the green. It is not separately waymarked; the garden is Stop 3 on the trail board, and the rest is in sight. Visitors who like the colliery story will find a morning in the village — the gallery, the school porch, the rows — and an afternoon on the parish trail a full day; see Mining.

Forest rides toward the Kielder edge are a different network, and a larger one. They are not all in the parish, and they are not all open at once, because the forest is a working forest. The forest page and conditions should be read with the board. Printed OS sheets and the sketch in our leaflet are not the same document; see older maps. The list on the map page follows the sketch.

The eastern loop is a longer outing and is not included in the advertised mileage of the Green Man Trail. Parties have found it worthwhile in good light, and slower in poor. Path notices for the present season are listed here.
