The eastern loop
Last updated: 14 October 2005
The eastern loop leaves the main trail at the second stile after the memorial garden and is said to rejoin near the old waggonway. It is a longer forest walk than the advertised trail, and it is not included in that mileage. The trees are older along this line. The committee last walked it on 11 October 2005. Two waymarkers were missing at that time.
The loop is not waymarked after the second stile in any way that can be relied upon through a whole season; forestry and weather have their own ideas. Parties have reported a fine walk in good light, and a slower one in poor. Some have come out near Seldom Seen, which is a pleasant landmark if you know the row, and not a turning place.
The board presently prefers the main trail, which is always the walk we recommend for a first visit. That advice is also on path closures. The main trail remains open.
