The old incline

Slater’s Incline served the colliery and the waggonway. It took the tubs down to the screens and the brickworks. The line of the tub road may be seen from the parish trail as a cut in the bank. The incline itself is a working way and is not a walk. At the foot, where the waggonway met the railway yard, there is a turning place. The memorial garden is the place from which that working is shown, and walkers on the parish trail pass it as Stop 3.

The incline is not an approach to the village from the water. Parties already in the forest who take rides that fall toward the shore will come out at the shore, which is a fine thing in its own right and is administered separately.

Those who have come as far as Kielder Water and wish to continue to Plashetts will find the present approach under if you reach the water. The valley road is the way.
