The market
Last updated: 4 March 2006
The market is a market of books, held in the front rooms of the Heritage Centre, in the school rooms that are not the gallery. Tables in rows. It is a quiet market. You may sit with a book. The mining labels remain in the main room; the market is not a sale of the collection. The desk will take a question as usual. The porch is still the porch, and the waiting, if the rooms are full, is on the bench.

The market, in the front rooms of the former school. Photograph from the centre collection.
Novels, in stacks, some without jackets. Children’s annuals, the covers gone soft. A pile of the Courant, tied. Parish magazines, mixed years. Tapes: hymns, a play, a language course that was never finished. A few records, in sleeves that have been mended with tape. OS sheets, mixed dates; the 1963 one-inch is not among them, and is wanted separately. A box of postcards, views of the valley and of other valleys. A dictionary. A Bible, inscribed. You may read a page before you buy. There is no charge to sit.

Leave the car at the hall. The gallery is the main room, and it is not closed for the market; walk through if you meant to look at the labels. What is unsold goes back into the boxes. We do not keep a list of titles at the desk, and we do not send books by post.
