Sat on the bench between the hall and the porch while the centre opened. It was occupied when we arrived from the church, and empty when we came back from the gallery, though we had not seen anyone leave the green. A good bench. The green was otherwise quiet. — M. Chen, London

Eastern loop not advised for a first visit, so we did not take it, being on our first visit. Main trail, church, gallery. A full day without the extra hour. We may take the loop when we know the stile. — The Singhs, Leicester

No private number listed. Fine. — The Finns, Thetford

Forest View again. Miss Ridley asked that we not walk round the house after dark. We had not meant to. The path at the side looks as if it continues into the trees, and we had taken it for a way down to the lane. Breakfast as before. Two rooms is all they have, and both were spoken for the Saturday. — The Coles, Manchester

Ginger Cat in the evening. Hours their own; the door was open. The rooms have been left as fitted, posters and all. We had the pizza. I would not call it a public house, and you do not. — Fran, Brighton

Left a note. — Hope, Brandon

The carving is smaller than the card. It looks a little aside, as you have it. When we came back from the churchyard I thought it had turned toward the door, but it is only the south window. We did not touch it. — I. MacLeod, Inverness

Letters twice a week, we know. — The Earl, Mildenhall
21 August 2005
Saturday market. We went back for a stall of tools we had seen on the first circuit. It was not there. The neighbouring pitch said it had always been theirs. We bought a cake instead and were not sorry. — The Coopers, Derby

We took the eastern loop on a clear afternoon. After the second stile the waymarkers give out, as you say. We could hear another party ahead for a good twenty minutes — voices, and a dog. We never came up with them. We came out near Seldom Seen and were glad of the row as a landmark. A fine walk in good light. — Pete and Sharon, Darlington
10 August 2005
Called at the desk. — Gil, Newmarket
31 July 2005
A painted waymarker face, without its post, was lying in the grass after the second stile. We left it there. It is rather a good face. I do not know if it is one of yours. — J. Pedersen, Aarhus
29 July 2005
Did not ask for email. — The Dunns, Haverhill
16 July 2005
Paper things, understood. — Flo, Sudbury

Gathering this year was smaller, as you have noted. The speaker did not come. The evening was cancelled. Tea was the thing people remembered, and we remembered it. The verses were sung. We were glad we came. — Fiona Grant, Glasgow
