I was at the school until 1971. The porch is the same porch. The village is quieter than I remember, which I expected. Miss Ridley at Forest View is not a relation as far as we know, though the name is common enough in the valley. A well-kept site. — Eileen Ridley, Bellingham

A day from Kielder Castle. Ferry in the morning, Plashetts in the afternoon. They are separate, as you say, and make a full day if you have one. The desk would not answer for the ferry hours, which is correct. — D. Brennan, Dublin

Green kept clear. — Len, Lancaster

I believe James Beckett, who is named on your mining page as at the White House, was a connection of my grandfather. The brass in the porch is dated 1933 as you have it. I copied the wording into a notebook. The centre staff were patient with me. — Tom Beckett, York
15 August 2001
Parking at the hall, as said. — The Coxes, Kendal
12 August 2001
I remember the Class in the Institute, the timber hut behind the school. It is still there. I did not go in. The porch is enough of a return. — Elsie T., Alnwick
2 August 2001
Heard the trees. — May, Penrith
22 July 2001
Brought a scout troop for the field behind the hall, by arrangement. Small field, trees at the far end. They were in their tents before eight and needed no warden. We used the hall as agreed. A practical camp for a first night under canvas. — R. Crowe, Newcastle
21 July 2001
A still afternoon. — The Todds, Brampton
15 July 2001
Gathering day. The hall was full enough. Someone played after tea. The inn was busy. A good parish day. — Susan M., Alnwick
8 July 2001
Gathering. Tombola as last year, someone said, though it was our first. Cakes on the long table. We did not stay for the evening. The children were tired and good. — A. Shah, Leeds
8 July 2001
Did not get lost. — Sid, Carlisle
26 June 2001
Main trail only. — The Bells, Hawick
13 June 2001
The leaflet was a help. — Una, Galashiels
9 June 2001
First walk of the year for us, once the country opened. Main trail only. Stiles a little damp. The forest fence is a good companion. We took litter back to the hall bins. — The Metcalfes, Barnard Castle
