The river

Last updated: 20 February 2006

The North Tyne is the river of this valley. From Bellingham it keeps the road company, and the drive is the better for it. After Falstone the valley narrows, the planting begins in earnest, and the river is still there, in the trees, a companion rather than a view. It is one of the pleasures of coming. It is not Kielder Water. The water is a large reservoir further on, administered separately, and a popular day out in its own right.

Fishing on the river is not administered from this office. Enquiries about rods, beats and a day ticket should go to those who keep them. There is no public landing for Plashetts on the reservoir, and none on the river that this office can offer. A halt on the drive, if you have already bought what you need in Falstone, is a pleasant thing and is not a substitute for the green.

Combining Plashetts with the river on the way, or with the water in the afternoon, makes a full day. Allow the morning for the village and the trail. The present approach is the valley road. Those who have come as far as the shore will find a note under if you reach the water.

Plashetts itself stands in the forested country of the same valley. The last of the road is the green. See the water and Getting Here.
