The following are the observations entered in the book and copied here when the desk has had time. Gaps are gaps. Nothing is inferred from them. They will give a sense of the season. The last line on the weather page is the last line here.

2004

18 January 2004

Hard frost overnight. Green standing. Main line walked as far as the church. No rain at the desk.

12 April 2004

Bright, cold wind. The inn notice went up. The porch was dry enough for the afternoon reading.

11 July 2004

Gathering. Fair, with a shower after tea. The hall was the house of the day. Wind in the larch, not on the grass.

19 August 2004

Warm for the porch. Still. The webcam trial ended. The green photographed well.

3 October 2004

Rain from first light. Burns up. Eastern loop not advised. Centre open to time.

14 December 2004

Low cloud, a little snow on the rides that did not lie on the green. Short day. Board read at four.

2005

9 January 2005

Snow on the green until late morning. Paths standing. Churchyard gravel usable.

22 March 2005

Fair. A good day for the church door. Mrs Hedley walked the main line.

10 July 2005

Gathering. Overcast, no rain to speak of. Smaller than the year before. Tea as it always is.

11 October 2005

The eastern loop was walked. Two waymarkers missing after the second stile. Wet at the burn. Wind in the trees all afternoon.

28 November 2005

Persistent rain. The gauge took 18 mm between opening and close. Rides reported heavy.

23 December 2005

Frost. Still. The green white at nine, gone by noon. Centre shut after one.

2006

8 January 2006

Hard frost. Paths standing. Centre open to time. The green was white until midday.

22 January 2006

Low cloud. The upper burn crossing not used.

14 February 2006

Wind in the trees. No rain at the desk. Forest rides reported wet.

2 March 2006

Fair. Mrs Hedley walked the main line. Eastern loop not taken. A good day for the church door.

12 March 2006

Overcast. Light rain in the afternoon. Still.
