The cloth

Last updated: 27 March 2006

The Sunday cloth is not the Gathering cloth. The Gathering cloth is larger, and it is kept separately, and it is brought out in July. The Sunday one is the ordinary cloth of the weekly table: washed at the hall when the urn is emptied, folded, and put back. Mrs Hedley knows which is which.

There are three. There are four if the Gathering cloth is counted, which it is not, except in the drawer. Good cloths are in the third drawer and are not for taking. A mark at the near end of the Sunday one will not come out. It has been there since 2004, and it is the same mark, and the same end of the table as you come in.

A spare was asked for on the small ads. One was offered. The offered cloth was not the size of the long table, and it was returned with thanks. Do not take a cloth from the drawer for a picnic. The drawer is not a linen cupboard for the green. The key is at the centre during advertised hours. On Sunday, if tea is being served, the door is already open.
