Northumberland County Council·Internal Audit Service

Layout and land use

The field opens behind the hall gable. The grass is one piece. There is no marked pitch, no numbered post, no internal track, and no separation of tents from a service strip. The hall stands at one end; the trees stand at the other. In summer the same grass is used, on Gathering day, as overflow from the hall, and on ordinary days it may be used for a picnic if the desk has been asked. Sunday tea, when served, is inside the hall and not on this grass. The parish green, on the other side of the hall, is kept for walking and is not part of the camping land.

  • No plan at 1:500 or better is held by the operator or by the Authority.
  • Fires are not permitted. That rule is stated by the operator and was not displayed on the field.
  • A notice on the field would, on a licensed site, show the occupier, the capacity, the nearest telephone, and the fire action. None of those notices is present.
  • The tree end is the first of the forest rides. Camping does not extend into the ride. No waymark on the ride refers to the field.
  • Mixed use (camping, picnic, Gathering overflow) is not scheduled. Conflict is managed by the desk when the desk is open.

A sketch was made by the auditors for the file. It is not a measured survey and is not reproduced in this presentation.
